How much will it cost?

The basic price is $35 per track. We offer discounts on 10 tracks and more. You can see all our charges on our prices page

Do you work in all styles of music?

Yes we master all kinds of music. The only types of music we won't work with are where there is sexist or abusive language or violence orientated lyrics.

Why don't you accept MP3 and WMA files?

The quality of compressed file formats is very low in comparison to the uncompressed formats. We want our work to be of the very highest quality and so will not compromise in this area. Very few mastering houses will master from compressed formats.

Although you work for fixed rates, doesn't each project require different handling and time?

Yes it does. That said it's not really about time, but the quality of the end result. The skill of the mastering engineer and what you pay for is his understanding of what needs to be done to make the track sound good. It's all about the end product.

If my recording is not very good quality can mastering help it?

Mastering can do a great deal to improve the sound of a track. The quality of the finished product is dependant on the quality of the master mix. If you have a mix which is poorly balanced it won't sound as good when mastered as one which is well balanced. Having said that, with the tools we use a lot can be done to help a mix which needs help! We always enjoy the challenge of mastering something which maybe isn't perfect and you would be surprised at the difference skilled mastering can make

We want you to be happy with your mastered tracks. If you're not happy, the first revision will be carried out free of charge. Any subsequent revisions will be charged at standard rate.

My question isn't answered here. What should I do?

Just go to our contact page and email us.

How large can my files be?

The upper limit for a single file is 2GB. A 44.1k 16bit file is approx 10mb per minute, so 200 minutes would be 2Gb. If your files are 24bit then 2Gb would be approx 133 minutes. If you are working at higher sampling rates the increase in file size might mean that a whole album would be larer than 2Gb. If this is so then use as many uploads as you need.

Should I supply a barcode and ISRC?

ISRC is the International Standard Recording Code which is a unique identifier for each version of each track. You can read more at www.ifpi.org/isrc. You do not have to supply a barcode (UPC/EAN) or ISRC number but it's definitely a good idea to have both if you can. If you do supply them we shall include them in your master.

How do I extract an audio CD track to a file that I can then upload?

If you only have your tracks as an audio CD and want to upload them to us for mastering you will have to extract them to a WAV or AIF file.

Mac: Insert the audio CD you wish to extract from into your CD-Rom drive. Double-click the mounted CD icon to display the contents. Drag the tracks to your desktop. Once copied to your desktop rename the files and add an .aif extension. Double-click the files to listen to them and make sure they are OK. If there are jumps clean the CD and try extracting it again.

Windows: If you already have Nero installed you can use the “Save Tracks” feature found in the “Extras” menu. There are many free CD audio extraction utilities available such as Audio Grabber.

Will uploading tracks affect audio quality?

Absolutley not one single bit, they are exact 1:1 copies. It's the equivalent of copying data between your hard disks.

Can I post my files to you?

Yes. The postal address is on our contact page

How do I send my songs and how do I get them back?

You will send your songs as audio files using the upload page on our site. Just complete the form and follow the simple upload intructions. These extra versions are mastered at a reduced rate - see our prices page for details.

You will receive an email from us saying that we have received them and notification of when they are scheduled to be mastered. We probabaly won't listen to the files until they ardue to be mastered, so if there are any problems with your file, you may not know for a few days.

How do you set the gaps between tracks on a CD?

When you order a CD you will also download a form on which you will give us details regarding your requirements for the CD. There is space here for you to write the gaps lengths you want between each track. You can leave it to the judgement of the mastering engineer if you're not sure about this.

How will I know when my track is ready for downloading?

When your tracks are ready you will be sent an email with a link to download your mastered tracks

Can my files be delivered on CD rather than downloading?

Yes they can be. Mention this in the box marked 'mastering style and special instructions' on the order page. They will be an extra charge for postage. Unless you state otherwise postage will be standard delivery.

Which media formats do you deliver?

We can deliver you files as WAV 44.1k 16bit or 24bit. We can also deliver mp3s in five different bit rates. If you order a CD album, this can be delivered by mail or as a disc image which you can download.

What is DDP?

DDP stands for Disc Description Protocol. You could think of it as a virtual CD or an image of a CD. The advantage of it over a CD is that is is an exact data replication of the CD without the possibility of errors which can always occur when burning a CD. It is a file which can be uploaded to the replication facility and from which the glass master can be made. You could think of it as being able to manufacture the glass master in the mastering suite without going through another transfer stage. It's highly recommended over making the master from a CD.
